Mr. Ed For Governor? Of Course!
OUDACONTREL, CA - Political lawyers were scrambling Tuesday to find legal precedent to disallow Bamboo Harvester from running for Governor. Harvester, who took television viewers by storm as the plucky horse "Mr. Ed" on the television show of the same name, announced his gubenatorial candidacy on Tuesday. "He had the signatures, he had the fee, we put him on the ticket. If Lassie wants to run, we'll put her on, too." said an unnamed source at the elections board. Other candidates are not amused. "He can't even vote! Gimme a break!" said incumbant governor Gray Davis. "He's got the name recognition, I'll grant you," said Lieutenant Governor Cruz Bustamonte, "but it takes more than a talking horse to be a good governor." "I have a stable platform," said Harvester wryly, "and I'm not just horsing around. I have a good team behind me. We're going to rein in spending, put this state on a steady course."
Alan Young, Harvester's co-star on the show, liked the idea of his old friend running, but said, "I'm not sure he has what it takes to run a state. Bamboo was the kind of guy that would be up and happy and doing his job one minute, then suddenly aloof and sulking in his stall. Maybe he's mellowed. But if it makes him happy to run, I wish him the best."
